When you are first meet someone what is the first thing you do. Right you reach out your hand to welcome and acknowledge each other, right! In my younger days I traveled to Indonesia for an exchange program with Canada World Youth. Before we jumped on the plane that was going to take us on our new adventure we needed to prepare so myself and the other youth who were on this amazing journey with me we got down to work. We learned the history of the Indigenous people there, learned their language, Bahasa Indonesia.
Small gestures like what I did for my cultural exchange to Indonesia made a big difference for the Indigenous peoples there. So take the time to get to know your neighbors, listen, learn and ask lots of questions.
