My uncle was a very complex man. He was a survivor, dreamer and teacher. He presented me a number of years ago with a Eagle feather. This is a great honor and at the time did not understand why I was gifted this honor. He told me it was to continue to educate and change what was broken. Today I now understand what he meant.
He went to residential school, and involved in the judicial system and always maintained a positive attitude and zest for life. He wanted to live simple and pass on the language and knowledge of the land he called home. He was a hunter, trapper and had knowledge of the medicinal plants.
I will miss you and realize the importance of your gift. Miigwetch and I will miss you.
